Daughter Of All Tooling Towers' Debuts In South Carolina
The first, and most iconic, piece of major tooling was installed earlier this week in the Boeing South Carolina 787 Final Assembly building. The DOATT - the Daughter of All Tooling Towers, as it's come to be known in North Charleston - was set on its rails on Monday.
It's a smaller version of the MOATT, or Mother of All Tooling Towers, used in Everett to install the Dreamliner's horizontal and vertical stabilizers.
"This event marks the beginning of our production system installation," says Todd Eilers, Production Engineering leader for Boeing South Carolina Final Assembly and Delivery. "Truckloads of tooling and equipment from all over the world are beginning to arrive."
Installation of major tooling is expected to be completed by May 1.
